Brushstroke Paintings

September 30, 2021 - December 4, 2021

Stockholm

Carling Dalenson is pleased announce an exhibition of works by James Nares.

James Nares, born 1953 in London, United Kingdom, has over the course of a five-decade career, investigated, challenged, and expanded the boundaries of her multi-media practice that encompasses film, music, painting, photography, and performance. She continues to employ various media to explore physicality, motion, and the unfolding of time primarily in the format of paintings. The exhibition at Carling Dalenson Gallery is her first exhibition in Sweden and consists of a number of works where she is using brushes of her own manufacture to create monumental strokes that appear almost three dimensional in their detail and depth, recording a gestural passage of time and motion across the canvas or board.

Nares has been the subject of numerous solo museum exhibitions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY and a career-spanning retrospective at the Milwaukee Art Museum in 2019. Her work is included in several prominent public collections, including the Albright-Knox Gallery, Buffalo, NY, Museum of Modern Art, NY, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. She currently lives and works in New York, NY.
